Keep Children Safe Online

Child looking at social media

Social media companies are exposing children to harmful algorithms and content. Parents deserve clear safeguards - and children deserve proper protection.

Ben Maguire MP and the Liberal Democrat have backed a cross-party amendment in the House of Lords which would ban social media for under-16s.  There is a shared responsibility to act, and act urgently. That means moving beyond whether to do something and focus instead on how we tackle the damage social media is doing to children’s physical and mental health.

We are now calling on the Government to work with the Liberal Democrats to go further than a consultation, and bring forward concrete proposals that are workable, futureproof, and in the best interests of children and young people. We cannot kick the can down the road in the hope that something will happen.

Big tech companies should not be allowed to profit at the expense of children’s wellbeing.
